Year 7 and 8 Girls Table Tennis Club (Thursday)

Following the recent success of the U16 Girls team in the Merseyside Schools tournament, we are looking to get more U13 Girls (Year 7 and 8) into the sport.

We are holding a new table tennis night on a Thursday. For those who do other sports on a Thursday you may find you can come to table tennis before you go to your other activity.

The year 9 girls are going to offer coaching as well give every pupil who turns up their own time using the training robot - FUN!

Limited spaces, we're only going to allow the first 8 pupils on Thursday so get there as early as you can as the whole point is to keep it a bit calmer than the often chaotic Monday night session that regularly gets 25+

Any questions come and see me

Welcome back 7GH!

Welcome back - I hope you have all had a great Half Term break. The first half of the term has flown by, so now we are in school until Christmas. It is a long term - 8 weeks of school before we break up (Friday 21st December) so keep your chins up, keep putting the effort in you have been doing and you'll be fine. Might sound daft but look after yourselves too, as the cold nights (and mornings) draw in and try to stay safe and healthy through the dark wintery period.

Message from Mr Birch who is in charge of uniform standards:

"Coats should be plain and preferably dark and cannot be replaced by hooded sweatshirt type pullovers.

Scarves can be worn outside, but they should be plain scarves used for warmth rather than decoration scarves should not be worn inside school buildings.

Hoods should only be worn in the rain and hats are unacceptable past the school gates."

But standards in our form have always been high, so for 99.9% of you just keep doing what you are doing.

Remember to keep your fundraising ideas coming in - our charity will be announced sooon - and any spare coppers you have lying around: Remember our coin tower challenge for the last week.

Competition results

Well done to everybody who entered the competition - in the end it was very close! However, two pupils got 100% on the quiz so our own Abbi H (7GH) and Callum B (8RH) will both be receiving the prizes of the Hunger Games trilogy in due course. You both know your book villains!

Year 7 Parents' Evening - Next Thursday

Note to parents: Just a reminder that Year 7 Parents' Evening is next Thursday:
Thursday 11th October.

For those who are new to the school, this first evening will be a bit more informal than future Parents' Evenings. Instead of seeing up to 12 different teachers in one night, it will just be meeting with me. Though by this time, I will be armed with comments made by your child's subject teachers. I will talk through these comments and discuss how I believe the first month has gone. Therefore, for some, appointments may be a bit shorter than later evenings - don't be offended! If you feel there are issues to discuss, by all means we will sort these out on the night.

Thank you

Mr Howard

Fifa 13 for sale

Fifa 13 for Sale for Xbox 360
Amazon in their wisdom sent me two copies.
It says the Ultimate edition but the code for the “ultimate” content has been … misplaced … so it effectively is just the standard version.
Retails at £40, will do a quick sale for £35 – please ask me asap before bringing in £££ so you are not disappointed and are left with too much money on your person!!

What did you want to know before starting at Deyes?

http://wallwisher.com/wall/fromy6toy7

I would like you to do me a big favour in preparation for the Year 6 Open Evening. I would like you to post on the wall on the link above with a short response about your first month of High School.

I would like you to write a short review about how you have found the transition from Primary School to High school.

Please include:What have you enjoyed?
What have you found difficult?
What subject have you found the most interesting?
What did you wish you knew before you started?

This wall will be made available to year 6s visiting Deyes on Thursday evening so please take care with spelling and sentences.

The art of tying a tie!!

Mrs K has been told by senior management that too many Year 7s are walking around school with ill-tied ties - I understand many of you will not be used to wearing a tie on a daily basis, maybe having to tie it fast when in a morning rush. Therefore, here's a video that might help you practise the art of tying a tie. Remember: you will have to retie your tie fast after PE or Performing Arts so it might be worthwhile having a go at home to see how fast you tie a decent tie. Not too long, not too short, knot right at the top covering the top button. This won't be necessary for many of you, so well done those who come into school with immaculate unform on a daily basis!!

Do you know your book villains?

Here is the link to the book villains competition.

The closing date is Monday 1st October.

You can submit your answers using the submission box on the competition page.

The winner will be the person with the most points - if there's a draw, we will select one entry at random.

The prize is a brand new set of the Hunger Games trilogy of books :-)

Year 7's charity

At Deyes we take our responsibilities seriously when it comes to helping the less fortunate. Therefore, we are looking for a charity to support across year 7's fundraising activities.

If there is a charity you feel we should be helping then please see your form tutor or form captain so we can get our suggestions forward. It may be a charity that your family has been supported by in the past or a cause that is particularly important to you.

Also, we are always on the lookouts for interesting fundraising ideas that you would be interesting in getting involved with in order to raise money for our chosen charity - any ideas, please pass them on!

CATs update

Thank you for your cooperation with today's CATs.

If you took one test today, you will have two tests tomorrow.

If you took two tests today, you will have one test tomorrow.

I find them quite strange myself - they remind me of something you might find on Brain Training on the Nintendo DS or in a puzzle book!

Don't worry, normal service will resume after tomorrow. Have a restful evening.
